A recent decision by the National Arbitration Forum to force a Chinese domain squatter to release the domains Xbox8.us and Xbox8.org has some thinkiing that the new name for the upcoming next generation gaming console from Microsoft will carry the same name as the Windows 8 PC and mobile phone operating systems. It may be a stretch because the same case awarded Microsoft the names XboxPhone.com and XboxTablet.com which would appear to us to be the real targets in the complaint.
The Xbox Game console has a longer life cycle than any operating system and making the console Xbox 8 would limit the amount of time one could use that name before they upgraded the software to 8.5 and then 9. It is more likely the next generation game console will not carry the same name as the Windows operating systems and what Microsoft was doing was securing all the domains that the one squatter had. The Tablet and Phone domains are more likely to become real products and they would appear to hold more value from a domainers point of view.
Any thoughts on what the name for the new Xbox console will be?
