Zune sales not as bad as many thought

November 29th, 2006 by Alfred @ Zune MAX

Well it looks like Zune moved into the Number 2 spot for mp3 player sales rather quickly didn’t it. I think that may have been a bit of a shock for some iFans but they’ll get over it. The Zune is a cool player and although the have stumbled out the gate they will come back based on a great device. I can say sales have not been brisk here at ZuneMAX.com but we have sold a Zune or two and there are lots of people intersted in them. Black is the most popular Zune color for ZuneMAX fans but brown is right behind it. The White Zune will be on closeout soon. No one seems to want these and I think its because it looks like an iPod and Zune fans are antiPod I guess.

Zune surprises in first sales week – Nov. 29, 2006

Microsoft’s newest MP3 player, which launched just over two weeks ago, took second place in the portable digital player market in its first four days of sales, according to numbers generated by the market research firm NPD Group.

“Considering it is a new brand, it’s a very good first-week showing,” said Ross Rubin, director of industry for NPD Group.

Microsoft’s (up $0.24 to $29.63, Charts) Zune took 9 percent of digital player sales, according to NPD, edging out Sandisk (down $0.86 to $43.91, Charts), but behind Apple (down $0.21 to $91.60, Charts), whose iPod models have long dominated the MP3 player market.

Another research agency, Current Analysis, reported a somewhat similar sales reading during the same week. For the same week ending November 18, 2006, the Zune took 7 percent of the MP3 player market, falling behind both Apple and Sandisk.
