MP3: E. Grizzly — Change the World

When E. Grizzly takes over the mike, he doesn’t rap about expensive jewelry and cars.

“Most people don’t have all that,” he said. “I’m basically a regular guy. I try to make music that speaks for the people.”

A Philadelphia native of Puerto Rican descent, Grizzly has been spreading his hip-hop message for the common man to average Joes for 11 years.

Grizzly, whose real name is Erik Tirado, said he earned his nickname on the streets of his hometown. “It’s an urban term up North,” he said. “Get on your grizzly. It means working hard to make money.”

After moving to Miami in 2003, Grizzly continued to stay busy by performing at clubs and signing with the Miami-based record label Puerto Roc Records.

His recently released CD, Hip Hop Is Dead, earned Grizzly the shout out rap artist of the year at the 16th annual Los Angeles Music Awards. The honors, presented by LAmusiconline.com, were handed out Nov. 9.

Grizzly said another CD with Puerto Roc Records, The Revolution Will Be Televised, is due out in March.

Grizzly is booked 9 p.m.-1 a.m. Thursday at the Voices and Vibes open mike showcase at Troy’s Package & Lounge, 2990 W. Sunrise Blvd., Fort Lauderdale; 954-791-0120. Grizzly also frequently performs at the spoken word open mike nights on Wednesdays at Power Studios, 3701 NE Second Ave., Miami; 305-576-1336. Visit egrizzly.com and myspace.com/erikgrizzly.

Zune MAX is all about the Zune and music and we’ve been featuring tons of new artists for our Zune fans around the world. Someone suggested to me I take a look at a hot new artist in one Mr. Chris Brown. According to IdolMe.com Chris Brown has been working in the music industry since the young age of 16 and he is a multi talented young man. He not only was the first male solo artist to have a hit single debut at the top of the Billboard charts but he also produces work for other top artists in the music industry such as Bow Wow and Jermaine Dupri.

Chris has been busy on a nationwide tour that has sold millions tickets and brought him to major cities across America and around the world to perform his top hits like “Run It”, “Gimme That, Yo” (Excuse Me Miss), and of course his latest smash hit “Say Goodbye”. Chris is a straight up lady killer and very popular with the girls. His music is featured just about all over the place and you find Chris Brown mp3 downloads and Chris Brown ringtones online for your cell phone.

It looks like Chris Brown is a serious artist with a bright future in the music industry and someone to watch out for.
Chris is being compared to some of the top artists in the industry including Usher, Tevin Campbell and even Michael Jackson. Chris is very well known for his own unique style and flavor and a booming sound that has made him a rising international hip hop star.

SUGA BUSH

Webpage: http://www.mysugabush.com
Location: new york, ny, usa
Description: i was born in philadelphia…started out singing in church, ended up dancing my way to new york and found my way back to music on the lower east side…
Biography: Danni Gee’s energy and tenacity have catapulted her from the youth choir of the African Methodist Episcopalian Church in West Philadelphia to holding her own center stage along side R&B veterans like Sister Sledge. This multi-talented artist, who has performed as a principal dancer with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, is in constant demand providing guest vocals for several acts including poets Jessica Care Moore and Sharrif Simmons, Sharief Ali, who is currently touring with John Legend, and neo-soul indie faves, Mother’s Favorite Child. In late 1999, she caught the eye of legendary R&B singer and fellow Philadelphian Kathy Sledge of Sister Sledge, and has since been taken under her wing and tours with the group as an “adopted” baby sister.

After cutting her teeth with these various artists, Danni decided to step out on her own, to bring life to her own eclectic vision and at the turn of the century, Suga Bush was born. Using her words and music, this group of extremely talented musicians, have created a unique fusion of sounds and influences, bringing to the table ol’ school R&B, electric rock, a spoonful of hip hop and a whole lot of soul.

Their early live recordings and singles from their debut EP have already gained airplay in North and South America and Europe and within months of their debut, Suga Bush received mention in Billboard Magazine as the featured new band in their Internet division and was featured in the launch of BillBoard’s offshoot website, Promosquad, alongside Jill Scott and The Pharycyde. Their presence on the web is steadily growing, with sites around the world adding their tracks to their playlists. They also have pages on popular download sites such as I-Tunes and MSN Music.

A fixture on the New York indie scene, Suga Bush has performed at several high profile music events including MeanyFest, a weeklong series of showcases featuring emerging NYC artists and musicians, promoted by SonicBids, and were the headlining act at the 2003 NYC Village Soul Festival. They have also been featured in Sesac’s “Writer’s on the Storm” series held at New York’s The Cutting Room and have become regular performers at the popular New York Singer/Songwriter Sessions.

Suga Bush celebrated the release of their first full length cd, “A Love Odyssey” in the fall of 2004. It is a sonic journey through the ups and downs of love written almost entirely by Danni. You can also hear Danni singing “The Wind Cries Mary” on the “Electronica Files: The Jimi Hendrix Dossier” (Exile Records/USA), which is currently in major stores and online outfitters. In support of their album, and to build their ever growing fan-base, they continue to perform at popular New York venues such as Crash Mansion, The Baggot Inn, Arlene Grocery, The Bitter End and SOB’S and at venues in and around the country.

Danni and Suga Bush’s exposure continues to expand in 2006 in exciting ways. They have been nominated for a best artist and cd award by the readers of the e-zine Kweevak.com, their single “Aint It Funny”, is scheduled to appear in the soundtrack of the independent film “Leaving L.A.” and Suga Bush was also one of 60 artists chosen from over 10,000 submissions from around the world to have their single “SomeBody” pre-loaded into a brand new MP3 Player being distributed in the UK, along with listening stations, by the electronics retailer Dixons in association with the website PulseRated. Danni also toured the US in July and August of this summer, 2006, with KC’s Boogie Blast, featuring KC and the Sunshine Band, providing supporting vocals for Kathy Sledge and the one and only Gloria Gaynor.

After experiencing just one session with Danni Gee, whether she’s performing a solo acoustic set, or setting the stage on fire with Suga Bush, you too will be searching for ways to describe this untapped talent. Just keep in mind that however you describe her or her music, you will only be scratching at the surface.

I finally got the Zune software to work properly. I was forced to remove my original installation and reinstall the software on my PC. I have been careful to only run the Zune software and no other programs or downloads and it seems to be running fine now. I’m syncing now with multiple programs and have been running for about 2 hours with no troubles. The problem with that is that when I reinstalled the software it did not recognize MAX and I was forced to replace the content on my Zune. I lost all the preloaded video clips and I think some of the songs are different as well but they are still cool. I’m bummed I lost the Kranked Video and I hope I can find it again. Anyone?

I dug up a rack of CD’s that has been in my closet for a long time. I found 5 or 6 with music files on them from back in the day when music and warez were available spam free courtesy of alt2600 and college ftp servers and P2P sounded more like an illegal drug. I think a couple of them date back to 98 when I got my first DSL account but the files were fine and I loaded about 50 full albums of some classic rock, reggae and more.

I spent most of my time with my new Zune listening to some of my old favorites. It’s been some time since I listened to so much music and it’s been very nice to hear some full albums I have not played through in years. I have now gone through almost everything from alternative and metal like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Guns and Roses, Pantera and Metallica to classic rock like Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, AC/DC, Janis Joplin and the Who to other stuff like Violent Femmes, Green Day, the Beatles and more Reggae music then I realized I had.

I have killed and charged my Zune at least once each day since I got it and it’s been on around the clock. I forgot how much I loved certain music like Led Zeppelin and Bob Marley. The original rasta man has been very soothing to me these late evenings working on our Zune site and when I need a pickup there is no one like Jimi Page to crank things up a bit. I’m amazed to this day by the work Led Zeppelin produced. They really were more than a rock band with loud guitars and pretty hair. They put down some great music with so much variety and so many instruments. I forgot how fast a tune like “Whole Lotta Love” or “The Song Remains the Same” can get and still sound like good music. I’m afraid most groups or bands these days don’t deseve to call themselves musicians. They are more like noise makers to be honest and I’ve met pets with more talent.

They can be celebrities and performers but most are not as musically talented as those before them. I think a lot of todays music is about one beat and a hook to play with, slap a trick line or two of lyrics on it and repeat the whole thing over and over again for 3 minutes. I can barely handle the radio any longer and use it to amuse myself with the idiots on morning radio or when I’m driving. I can’t belive those people get paid to be so dumb.

I’ve had MAX for just over a week now and I’ve been using him non stop. I’m not always thumbing through the GUI or testing some feature out but I play lots of music with it and I love the picture shows and videos also. The screen is perfect for photo slideshows and I’ve got lots more pics to add to my Zune but the most fun has been going back through time with music. Listening to so much of my old favorites has brought up lots of memories from lazy days gone by jamming to the latest and greatest tunes.

I was thumbing through the Zune MarketPlace recently and came across a Playlist labeled “What’s Zune MarketPlace” and I downloaded it without even checking it out first. I was surprised to find a cool collection of songs beginning with the phrase “Welcome to the” including hits from GNR, Pink Floyd, Public Enemy and Tanya Stephens. I have not heard of Ms Stephens and was most impressed with her song “Welcome to the Rebelution”. Its a good tune and I suggest you check out the Playlist if you get the chance.

My musical taste is wide and varied. I like almost every kind of music and at some point in my life have considered myself a fan of almost everything. Growing up I listened to lots of R&B type music and I have vivid memories of the beginning of rap and the hip hop movement. I was hunting for something different from what I have here on CD and decided to check out some more Zune Playlists. I found two that I’m really having fun with. The first is labeled “Old School Rap” and it has quite a few decent old school tracks on it from Run DMC and UTFO but the bomb playlist has to be the #1 Playlist on the Zune MarketPlace labeled “B-BOYS AND B-GIRLS”.

This collection of Old School jams took me back to the early 80′s when I listened to classic rap music on 12″ vinyl in my bedroom with the boys in my hood. I listened to each of these playlists once and was out hunting for more to add to my collection right away. I grabbed some LL Cool J, Beastie Boys and everything Run DMC rap music I could find on the Zune MaketPlace but came up empty when I looked for hip hop music stuff like Space Cowboy and Pac Jam from Jonzun Crew. Not many of you may know or remember Jonzun Crew but they were pretty big for a short time in some small places down south :) I found a YouTube video of their song “We are the Jonzun Crew” that I can’t remember ever seeing. It was funny to see the video as it makes the song sound even sillier than I remember it but it was the funk of its time.

It’s amazing to me how my mind associates so much with music online. I can hear a song and tell you so much more about the time and place I was in my life when I was into the music then I can about the song lyrics or the band. I seem to be one of those people that remembers people and places by music and MAX has been taking me down memory lane. It’s been a total blast but I think I’m ready for some new stuff with an old skool twist possibly. So tell me some of your favorite memories with music and suggest some rap music songs or albums I should pick up in the Zune MarketPlace. I have no idea where to look and I’m not interested in just downloading random playlists cause they sound cool. What kind of music are you listening to on your Zune?

The Zune Insider provides some information about a recent financial presentation given by Robbie Bach the President of the Entertainment and Devices Division for Microsoft. The Zune Insider provides information direct from the Microsoft Website. Whatever you may think of him this comes straight from Microsoft so it has to be good. Our analysis of  The Financial Analyst Meeting 2006 reveals the details of what Microsoft plans for not only the Zune family of mobile devices but their larger plans for a future of interconnected devices and services catered to the digital lifestyle.

Bach statements are in italics for clarity.

Bach says while giving the presentation "One thing that hasn’t changed is our focus on the digital lifestyle. When I was here last year, I talked extensively about why we think the digital lifestyle is such a tremendous opportunity for the company and a tremendous opportunity for our group. And whether you’re at a PC or in your car or traveling or sitting down in front of the TV, we think we can deliver an amazing connected experience around the digital lifestyle."

We can see that the Zune is but a small part of this Microsoft Live initiative. This is another step towards establishing a platform of devices, applications and services to help a person manage their entire digital life with a little help and a monthly subcription to Microsoft. Bach continues by saying.

"But in some ways more importantly, the secret sauce to our strategy is the community and services we are going to use to tie these experiences together, because in the world of digital lifestyles, how people interact with others, the community they build, the services they have access to, really is what’s going to lead this business to success. And it’s a great place for Microsoft to differentiate itself."

Here he shows the "secret sauce" of their strategy and the way they plan to differentiate themselves is by building communities and services to tie things together. Well we’ve already seen them building communities with Xbox Live and we all understand the power of social networking (insert Myspace here). It appears that what Microsoft hopes to do is bring together an even greater audience with the integration of multiple media services in their own community.

Bach lays down steps for a grand plan with these statements.

"First of all, we have to launch Windows Vista. That’s critical to our gaming platform. This is the first version of Windows in probably four or five years that has significant advancements in gaming technology."

Windows is of course the foundation of all Microsoft plans. The most profitable division in their organization has always been the OS and in building more devices to license an operating system on they secure a stable future of their biggest money maker. Future versions of Windows will no doubt take on more a home management function and control things around the house from a centralized platform. Envision your automated home maintaining your favorite temperatures in each room, it can record, store and play your favorite media, it will manage your finances, it will make a pot of coffee every morning and it can even water the lawn twice a week. All through mechanized controls managed from your home pc and Windows Live for support.

"We also have to keep growing the Xbox 360 business. This is about building an install base. And now is the time to do that. By the time we reach the end of the calendar year, we think we will have a 10 million-unit console lead in install base, and that is a huge advantage for us relative to our competitors."

People wondered why they spent billions to win over the gaming market and here we realize it was much more than games. What they wanted was a dedicated base of users. In  the gaming industry they can brand their users at a young age and develop a loyal lifelong customer. This base sits on top of a Windows OS and software applications. How easy will it be to have Xbox users working with Microsoft applications throughout the rest of their lives? Microsft had great vision to develop this Live initiative and ambitious plans on how far they want to go with it.

"We’ve done a spectacular job in the IPTV space driving trials worldwide. You look at the list of customers we have who are trying our software; it’s a who’s who of the telecom industry, and we’re getting real traction with those and leading those toward commercial trials"

IPTV is a flank move on the television industry to take control of an even larger base of users. By securing a foothold on the Internet Television market and establishing market dominance they can cut out cable providers and take over the entire television industry. The merger between tv and the internet will be more of the internet assimilating the television market as it consumes all other media providers. It’s but a matter of time before all everything is available through your broadband connection. If Microsoft takes lead on IPTV they may some day control every television viewer in the world.

"When you add that to the fact that there’s integration opportunities between what we’re doing in IPTV and Xbox 360, and we’re already taking advantage of the opportunity to integrate between Media Center and Xbox, you really have in this entertainment space a great position for Microsoft."

This shows what we already can see about their integration plans. The Xbox and Media Center tie ins are well known. Having gamers playing on their platform has worked well for Microsoft and they are certain to continue pushing things as far as they can. The bigger picture of the Windows Live Anywhere project becomes more clear with the following.

"Finally, one of the things that we just announced last week is a move into the music and video space in portable entertainment, something we call Zune. I want to spend a few moments here talking about Zune and give you a little bit of context. I think the first thing to understand about Zune is that we are taking a more integrated approach to this. Microsoft will be involved in the hardware, in the software, and the services. We think that’s important to produce the number one thing that has to happen in this marketplace, which is a great customer experience. And we have to tie those things together in some ways like we have in the Xbox world, where in the hardware, software, and Xbox Live service we have tied things together in a great experience."

There has been some confusion about whether the Zune is a real product. We think you can see once again that this is a real project and that this device will soon be available. You can have all the leaked insider reports and photos you want. This is the President of a Division in Microsoft explaining to financial investors about their new portable entertainment device. He is not speaking about some far off future plans but stating facts about real products and services soon to come.

"Looking at Zune as part of our broader picture. You know, in the case of Apple, they have certainly an iMac business, they have their iPod business, and they’ve sold a few things in the home that compete with Media Center, although the numbers there are actually quite small. Look at our business: We have a burgeoning IPTV business that we think is going to grow and be successful in the home. We have Media Center in over 14 million units and growing around the world. We have Xbox 360 in place and growing around the world. We have Xbox Live, MSN, and our Windows Live initiatives expanding. Put all of those things together, and then take Zune and put it in the context of that. It enables us to complete the picture. It enables us to have the full entertainment and connected entertainment experience that we want to have. And so that’s why Zune is important, and it is a way we’re going to differentiate ourselves, because the experience of having Zune in that connected environment is going to be a dramatically better experience than you get just from having a portable music player."

Bach shows what we already know that they are planning a big push with the Zune family in order to once again grab a larger base of users for their future plans. The Zune is probably as big if not bigger then Xbox because with Zune if they fail it will destroy their plans for integration into the future services. We think that Microsoft will be taking a very serious approach to market dominance with the Zune portable media devices. The Zune has to have at least a moderate level of success and pay for itself in order for them to pursue further investment of this Live Anywhere initiative.

"I want to talk a little bit about further out something called connected entertainment, because our ultimate vision here in this space is how do we bring all these things together into an experience that is new and different for people? How do we enable people to have their content—whether it’s a movie, a game, a video, a piece of music, someplace in their environment—and be able to get at it from wherever they want, whether they’re in their car, whether they’re walking on the street, whether they’re in their living room, whether they’re in the den in front of a PC? That, we think, is a very powerful vision, and the combination of what’s going on in the networking space, and the work we’re doing with our devices, and our service, much like what you saw in Live Anywhere, we think we can deliver on a very integrated approach to content, that is very powerful not just for us and for our customers, but also for the content providers, because it gives them access to new experiences and to new customers."

In this final statement he just about wraps it up. These points lay out the ground work for integration of a variety of media platforms through a set of interconnected devices and services. Windows Live Anywhere really is a grand planl. If Microsoft can pull it off they will have a huge base of users. By tying the pc, the portable entertainment and home gaming system they create a complete entertainment system. As soon as they can add mobile communication services such as phone and text messaging to be connected through the same services it would be amazing.

The Zune portable player is an important step in their goals towards this Live Anywhere initiative. They have a strong position in the pc and game industry and are now focused on building and maintaining that. The mobile device has been the weakest link and Microsoft now feels it best that they do it on their own. They have had success with Xbox by taking more control of things and with any luck they will have great success with the Zune as well.

The mobile device is also the most powerful in the group since it is the one device to tie them all together. The Zune will be much more than a music player. If Microsoft is capable of completing this suite the Zune mobile communication and entertainment device will be the center piece of a digital lifestyle and interconnected community. One thing is for certain. Microsoft has a lot riding on the success of the Zune and they are going to do what it takes in order to see it succeed.

We think there will be a huge battle fought between Apple and Microsoft to see who has the coolest player. Right now Apple leads the pack with a high cool factor and a huge base of users that bought in because it was the hip thing to do. If Microsoft wants to beat Apple they have to be that much cooler. Possibly the smartest move they make will be in courting the artists as their spokespersons. If they provide more incentive to the artists through a larger cut of their profits they will make lots of friends in the recording industry and every wanna be hip hop mogul and movie star will be sporting the new Zune for the holidays.

What better way to be make your product cool than to let the cool people do it for you?
