Razer Pro keyboard dock coming Zune?

March 14th, 2007 by admin

We received a tip from a Zune fan with some pics of a prototype Razer Pro Keyboard Dock for the Zune player. Whether or not it’s real I’ll leave up to you but the pics look sweet. I’ve cropped them to fit the page but I linked each cropped photo to the original as sent to me so you can look over the pics. They kinda look Photoshopped because they are so clean and clear but they could just be really good product image shots. I’m no picture pro.

Zune Skin - Zen @ DecalGirl.com

March 4th, 2007 by admin

At first glance the Zen Zune skin looks like a menu from a nice sushi restaurant and I like it. It’s very laid back and relaxed looking with an Oriental flare. I don’t know if I would have called this Zen. I think maybe Oriental Delight is more appropriate but I don’t make them I just recommend them to you. I’m craving a tuna roll and wasabi right now!

BoxWave Flexiskin silicon case for Zune

February 27th, 2007 by

BoxWave FlexiSkins

It’s been just about 3 weeks since I got my first Zune case. I’m kinda slow to things. The BoxWave Flexiskin is a very nice and well designed silicone skin for a rough Zune users like myself. I’ve put the case through some serious real world testing and I’m pretty happy with it over. I’m not very interested in the belt loop attachment which then gets in the way if you’re not using it but it’s a livable trade off for the convenience of having it should the need arise. The basic FlexiSkin runs $19.99 and is a solid deal at the price. You can get the belt clip for an extra buck and a kickstand for standing your Zune player up for an extra $3. My favorite part of the FlexiSkin is the screen protector mine that it came with. It actually works and protects my Zune screen. My greatest fear is scratching that luscious screen MAX has and I’m probably overly cautious of damaging it. Having the silicone case and screen protector on my Zune made me loosen up with it a bit and do things like just jam it in my pockets or backpack with little regard for what it banged or bumped against. The screen protector is raised just above the screen so as to allow dust to settle between without scratching up the screen like many other protectors do and the case design keeps the screen covered at all times.

MAX is a black Zune and my case is white which gives it a dull gray look that’s really not so bad. The Boxwave Flexiskins for Zune are an excellent deal at the price and if you can win one for free in our Boxwave Zune case giveaway you’ll love it that much more. In order to enter to win a free Zune case from Boxwave just drop by the Zune forums and leave a short blurb on you and your Zune and bingo you’re entered.

Beware of Third-Party Zune accessories

January 12th, 2007 by admin

Here is a great reason to be careful of the accessories you buy for your new Zune player. Some third party accessories my not properly function with your Zune an that could end up costing you.

I think it’s safe for now only to buy accessories from approved manufacturers or you could end up like this guy with his bad cable.

Nicholas’ Blog-O-Rama - Beware of Third-Party Zune Connector Cables

I’m having a dispute right now with someone on eBay about a knock-off Zune cable I bought. When I had my iPod, I had bought similiar “third-party” connectors for it and had no problems. This particular cable though is not wide enough on the connector end. The pins are correct, so if you line it up centered exactly and force it in, it will connect. But then of course it’s not locked in, because the side locks don’t reach where they’re supposed to.

What will we see at CES?

December 31st, 2006 by

Currently there is a very limited amount of accessories available for the Zune. Everyone is looking forward to CES to see what companies will bring products to the table. A larger amount of accessories would likely convince more people to get one. Accessories are actually one of the reasons the Ipod is so popular.

Accessories.ifrogz.com - Zune/CES vs iPod/Macworld

The lack of accessories has been one in a list of reasons consumers avoid buying the Zune at least for the moment. The “made for iPod” monopoly is one of the things Microsoft is trying to challenge - and as a company familiar with monopolies they should know the tricks of the trade.

It also appears that two companies will definitely be showing accessories for the Zune.
SDI Technologies Inc.
dreamGear, LLC

I personally would not mind a few more speaker docks for the Zune and maybe a wider variety of cases. I’m sure some of you wouldn’t mind a few more toys either.

P.S. In case you haven’t noticed I’m a new blogger here. :) So be nice.

Custom Zune Skins from DecalGirl.com

November 27th, 2006 by admin

So it looks like DecalGirl custom Zune skins are going to be the hot ones. I first heard of them in this post from our friend Spell 125 and was interested in what they had. I went over all the new skins and could not decide which one I liked the most. I kinda want to buy them all to have something different each time I take MAX out but that’s a bit much, they have 59 different skins. I like the Abduction and the Celestial the most I think. Today I found an article in Engadget about the entire line of Decal Girl Skins. It seems they must receive the same emails as we do on occasion because they often seem to be writing the same article at the same time as we are. I held off my Vaja Case article just because we were to publish on the same day but I’m going forward with this one because I really like the skins and I’m ordering mine soon.

I’m using MAX for the benefit of our Zune community and I wanted something that would identify the domain ZuneMAX.com but I didn’t want to put a cheap sticker on my Zune. I found that Decal Girl also offers Custom Zune Skins by request. I submitted a request for Custom Work and was happy to receive a reply with a Photoshop PSD attached so that I can make my own Zune skins. That’s awesome. MAX is going to get his own personalized wardrobe and the best part is that a Custom skin only costs an extra $5 and you can have a truly unique and personal Zune. I guess $5 is quite a bit more than the standard price $9.99 but Decal Girls is running a Special on Zune skins and you can get one for just $6.99 for a limited time it appears so I suggest you drop whatever it is you are doing and get on over to DecalGirl.com so you can order a Custom Zune Skin like I am for MAX.

Microsoft Zune Review by MP3.com

November 3rd, 2006 by admin

MP3.com: Microsoft Zune
The Microsoft Zune can hold its own as a portable media player, and the sharing feature is definitely cool. But the lack of format support will estrange some seasoned users. Earlier this year, the idea of a Microsoft-branded MP3 player was foreign to most consumers. After all, what could the software giant do to the iPod dynasty that Windows Media hardware partners such as Creative, iRiver, and Samsung had been unable to do? Well, we all knew that after Microsoft’s September 14 announcement, the Zune would be a different kind of portable media player, one that integrates wireless technology for Zune-to-Zune sharing of files, and one that works within a closed Zune Marketplace ecosystem. The hard drive device, which comes in black, white, or the love-it/hate-it brown, will enter the real world on November 14. I was lucky enough to test-drive the device today, and here are my first impressions. By now, we all know the basics of the Zune: it’s a 30GB MP3 player with a photo- and video-friendly 3-inch (4:3) screen, and it will cost $249.99. It runs on a customized version of Portable Media Center software (Windows CE-based) and features the same intuitive twist-navigation as players such as the Toshiba Gigabeat S. But there are many differences, which I’ll share in a moment. To the chagrin of many Windows Media fans, the device is not backward compatible with WMA DRM9, so tracks purchased from stores such as Napster or Urge will not work. Instead, the Zune works within its own software and store, which are not connected to Windows Media Player at all (in fact, you don’t even need WMP to sync and manage your Zune). While the player is similar to many other players in terms of its feature set–music, video, and photo playback, plus an FM tuner–what sets it apart is its integrated Wi-Fi chip, which allows it to seek out and be seen by other Zune-sters. This sharing feature allows users to share music and photos (but not video) within the same room–albeit with limitations that many of us already know: three plays of a song within three days. Shared photo files, on the other hand, have no limitations.
