Live blogging from SumFest 2008

July 17th, 2008 by admin

I’m sitting in the press room backstage at Reggae SumFest 2008 waiting to get my name on the list to interview artists at tonights show. I’m hoping to get an interview with Beenie Man and Mavado as well as Elephant Man and Vybes Kartel if possible. It’s Dancehall night and the energy is already picking up. The crowd is starting to build up and everyone seems excited for what should be a high energy show.

The tech guys just brought the free access pc’s online and I am the first to test them out with this post. I’m trying to get USB access to this pc so I can upload some pics from the show as they happen. When I do I’ll start uploading some pics and maybe even some short video clips for everyone.

Rhapsody to open DRM free music store online

June 30th, 2008 by admin

Real Networks and MTV have partnered up to release a new mp3 store under the Rhapsody label. The online music store will feature the latest music releases from the 4 major labels in DRM free format available for download at 99 cents for a single song and $9.99 for an entire album.

I think another DRM free music store will be good for the industry. It will force iTunes and Zune to push more DRM free content in their own stores if this new store takes off. You have to wonder how well another mp3 store will do and what they might offer different from others

Rhapsody launches digital download store to compete with iTunes | Technology | Los Angeles Times

Rhapsody America, the Web’s top subscription-based music service, opened a digital download store today, becoming the latest company to challenge the dominance of Apple’s iTunes.

Like other recent challengers — and unlike iTunes — the Rhapsody MP3 store will feature songs that aren’t constrained by anti-copying measures. The four major record labels will provide Rhapsody such songs, which work on any digital music player and can be copied an unlimited number of times. Apple has such music from only one major label.

The store from Rhapsody America, a joint venture of RealNetworks and Viacom’s MTV Networks, offers another indication that the music industry, in its struggle with Apple over the pricing of music, is cultivating a new breed of Apple competitor.

Rhapsody is charging 99 cents for a single and $9.99 for an album, the same pricing as on iTunes.

Internet marketing tips from ReciprocalConsultingBlog.com

June 29th, 2008 by admin

So of course music and Zune are not my only passsions. As I have mentioned in previous posts I’m very interested in all aspects of internet marketing and specifically search engine optimization. I have been reading about internet marketing online for a number of years but most of that was in newsletters from the big players in the industry. I get the WebPro news emails as well as those from Search Engine Land and some from Internet.com as well but a lot of my new reading is coming from blogs.

it seems to me blogs have some of the most up to date information and you can always find the latest and greatest information about Zune players right here in our blog and you can pick up new marketing tips on all aspects of search marketing and even Pay Per Click campaigns with blogs and it seems everyone has one these days. Blogs seem to work well for lots of things but marketing guys like the folks at RedFly marketing and Reciprocal Consulting seem to understand the strength a blog can be for a business online. I have been reading the ReciprocalConsultingBlog.com site for weeks now and the articles they offer on internet marketing seem to come from some experienced marketing professionals with a wealth of information and knowledge of the industry.

With articles like SEO Misconceptions - What imposters say, which really digs into what red flags to look for when hiring an SEO company or Market Your Business on the Internet , with tips for offline businesses on how to market themselves online they seem to really understand the industry.

Search marketing and the internet are the new power in advertising and many of the old school businesses are scrambling to remain relevant in a digital age. I understand the newspaper industry is in much turmoil over the changes the internet has forced on them with instant information available online. I wonder who is next.

New music for your Zune from Fading out Silence

June 29th, 2008 by admin

Webpage: http://www.fadingoutsilencemusic.com
Location: Tehachapi, CA, USA
Description: A thrill ride of melody and transition… Hard rock energy with alternative styling. Not afraid to drift into metal/hardcore influences or to strip down to a intimate alternative setting. Our music thrives on melody, transcending chords and rhythm.
Biography:

Fading out Silence is…

Jonathon Trone: Lead Vocals

Deanna Trone: Keyboard and vocals

Dominic Bellasperanza: Guitar and Bass

Thomas Turner: Drums

A thrill ride of melody and transition. One that will drop you from a cliff and convince you that the impact won’t come, have you experience the shock of a lifetime, then smile and walk away leaving you bleary-eyed and breathless.

That is the goal we try to achieve with every single song we write, and every show we play.

What we want to bring to the listener is a message that is eerily haunting and beautifully hopeful.

Started roughly in 2001, it began as a couple of friends getting together to have fun, but slowly grew into something resembling a dream. When we realized that is could become something more than just a way to put our talent to constructive use, we began pursuing it with all we had. We’ve hit some rough spots along the way, lost members to moves and harder situations, and hit some times where it seemed honestly hopeless. But all the difficulties have helped mature our sound and strengthen our drive to what it is today.

The love and passion, for the art that is music, is still growing and will continue to grow exponentially. It goes beyond just enjoying stepping onto a stage and having fun…it is truly something that when we get together and write, perform, or practice we get lost…lost in a euphoric bliss that can only truly be experienced when we share it with others, which is exactly the desire that drives us.

To all our fans now and the ones to come, thank you so much for the amazing support, we love you dearly! And heres to the future! May you be there with us!

That about sums us up…

Peace and Mercy!

Jonathon

Press
Release:

Fading Out Silence

Fading Out Silence is about filling your mind with music. These alt-rockers have got the tunes to carry out that desire. Fading Out Silence is a versatile band, covering a broad range of emotional impact in its music. The band’s softer side offers melodic textures and intelligent, heartfelt lyricism while the heavier side of the band takes the melody and smarts and delivers them with crunch and punch and hints of metallic energy. Either way, it’s a musical rush of songwriting passion.

Essence of Expression

For Fading Out Silence, writing music is more than just tossing some beats, notes and words together to make people clap their hands. Much more. Music is the embodiment of the human spirit, emotion captured in melody, the communication of inner self to inner self, artist speaking to audience. Music is a reality in and of itself and one inextricably entwined with the mind and heart of man. “It truly is the essence of expression,” says Fading Out Silence. “To take what you’re feeling and mold music around it to fit the mood is one of the most amazing gifts one could have.” Music, declares Fading Out Silence, goes beyond telling others about what happened to you – it’s sharing with them the experience in a way they will truly understand. “To sculpt your experiences into something tangible for someone else to hold is showing people who need hope that there is someone else who understands the pain or love or any other emotion that they are going through.”

Soul of Sound

Music is part of the very fabric of our senses. We can feel the beats vibrate through us. Our ears revel in the music. With a computer program (or something else …) we can even visualize the concept of music. Music can be translated to mathematical formula. Music is everywhere. It’s part of us and part of everything. And that’s exactly Fading Out Silence is here to conquer silence and bring music as a messenger of promise. It’s way more than mere entertainment. “Music is the soul of sound,” says Fading Out Silence. It can shape the world and alter the direction of the future. It can be used for dark purposes and light. It has power and requires responsibility. “With the ability to be a gift one moment and a weapon the next, it is a medium of purpose, and as such the wielder must always be aware of the message’s intent.”

The Artist at Work

Fading Out Silence has shared concert time with 30 Seconds To Mars and has recently completed a pair of CDs, each designed to show off a facet of the band’s musical personality. “Our softer, more indie rock album entitled ‘The Set It to Silent Project’ will be released in November 2007,” according to Fading Out Silence. “Our harder alternative rock album entitled ‘Improv-ed Improvement’ was released in August.” Fading Out Silence is working with A&R Select, the world’s leading artist development firm, based in Los Angeles, CA.

“The diversity of Fading Out Silence’s sound is key to the depth and impact this band has on mind and heart with its serious rock energy.” - A&R Select

invisibleSHIELD™ for the Microsoft Zune

June 29th, 2008 by admin

The first invisibleSHIELD™ was designed sometime in early 2005 by a man with a wrsitwatch who wanted to protect it from scratches while wearing it. The easy to apply urethane protective film offers great additional protection to glass and plastic screens on just about anything. Why they cannot design these things so they don’t scratch as easy as they blows my mind but it seems that just about any sort of portable device you can own has scratching problems.

The invisibleSHIELD™ was designed from urethane plastic for military applications such as protecting the leading edge of helicopter blades from wear and tear. I think we all know just how tough something like that would have to be and placing it over your screen is sure to save it from the toughest scrapes and scratches.

Since their inception Zagg has introduced dozens of new designs which cover everything from iphone cases to pda’s, laptops and of course watches.

Zagg has also introduced the invisibleSHIELD™ for the Zune as well. They offer an Original Zune screen protector as well as one for your Zune 80 or Flash Zune 4 and 8.

With a LifeTime Warranty and 30 Day Money back Guarantee its almost a no risk buy for some added protection on your favorite electronics and a pretty cheap investment at that. I suggest you take a look at the invisibleSHIELD™ when you consider a screen protector for your Zune or other devices.

Three iPod alternatives in Canada

June 29th, 2008 by admin

Here is a well done review by a Canadian of three iPod alternatives available to their market. he chose three devices with wireless fucntionality and some form of online stores. He was not impressed with the fact Microsoft released zune in Canada but the Zune MarketPlace is still not available. It does seem odd that they hav enot had time to prepare the online store for release at the same time.

Another misstep on their part because the MarketPlace seems to be one of the strong features with the Zune and there are a number of us happy with the subscription music model. I still believe its the best choice for me and my desire to search out new music. The Zune stacks up best against the models he’s selected but I think Zune is better than all of them don’t I?

globeandmail.com: Three iPod alternatives

Apple’s iPod so dominates the MP3 field that it has become a kind of black hole into which competitors fall. Manufacturers could make a better MP3 player and it wouldn’t really matter — the iPod is so iconic that to want another brand demands an excuse at best, or expresses a betrayal at worst.

The three players under review here — Microsoft’s Zune, the Sony Wireless Video Walkman and Sandisk’s Sansa Fuze — are worthy iPod competitors in technical terms. They each have minor differences, with some features — such as the inclusion of an FM radio receiver, Bluetooth wireless headphones or larger storage capacity — that vary the overall cost.

Halloween costumes with worldwide shipping from CostumeCauldron.com

June 29th, 2008 by admin

So Halloween is a ways away still but some friends of ours have planned a halloween party and guests are required to wear a nice Halloween Costumes. I guess there will be a costume contest with cash prizes for the best costume and things like that. I’m not really a costume kinda guy but I am sorta stuck going to this party and I want to actively participate.

The first thing I did was look for an excuse to not have to wear a silly halloween costume but then I realized the kids would really like it and it may actually be some fun for me too so why not right? When I was a kid my mom made costumes for us but thats probably not going to happen for my kids. We’re not that talented and making a halloween costume would be me picking out something from our existing wardrobe and making customizing it. I could probably make m,y kids into some horrible halloween monsters with some fake blood and props but that may not go over well with some of the other parents at this party so I think I’ll have to find something else for all of us.

Sexy Halloween Costumes

I will not be wearing a sexy halloween costume like those found for sale online at CostumeCauldron.com but I may go for one of the Star Wars Halloween Costumes like maybe a super cool Boba Fett costume complete with mask and pistol or the Darth Vader Costume with Red Light Sabre

Boba Fett Halloween costumeDarth Vader Costume

Of course those would go best if I dressed the kids in a Chewbacca costume or maybe the Jedi Knight costumes so we can do battle for the party and use our Light Sabres to entertain folks. I can see my youngest son Robby wrecking the place with his Light Sabre and smacking a few of the other kids. He’s a bit rough so he may be better suited for the Chewbacca costume. I think the older one, AJ, will be fine with a weapon but who knows. He’s seen Star Wars and watched the Light Sabre battles between Luke and Darth. He may get carried away with the costume. Then again, I may be the one they need to watch. A Darth Vader costume could be a powerful thing for a Star Wars fan who saw each of the movies in its original release at the movie theater. I remember watching Star Wars at the movie theater in Key West Florida when I was like 8 or 9 I guess. It was a packed house and we had to wait in the longest line I had ever seen.

Chewbacca Costume

The cool thing with CostumeCauldron.com and what drew me to their site was the worldwide shipping offered via USPS. I’m still in Negril and getting things shipped here is nearly impossible. I think its cool they take the extra effort to export to those of us not residing in the States. They have a great website and a huge selection of what seem to be higher quality halloween costumes then you find in the Walmart or Target down the street. if I do go to this party I think it may be a Star Wars theme unless the monsters win out and we tear up some old clothes instead.

If you’re buying a halloween costume online this year you should check out the selection at CostumeCauldron.com, it looks like exactly what i need and it may be what you need as well.

Finding coupons online at 1-coupons.com

June 27th, 2008 by admin

I’m an avid online shopper and I buy many of my things over the internet. I generally use big shopping sites such as Amazon.com and TigerDirect.com for my electronics and computer equipment. Is shop a number of smaller sites for other things like shoes and sporting goods and I have been known to shop eBay on occasion for unique items or when I need a new toy from some guy who can’t have his anymore. I think the last thing I bought on eBay was a Halo Zune for a giveaway some many months back. i just don’t like dealing with many smaller shops online. Most of them are simply resellers for some other larger shop and they just screw up the process most of the time.

I like everyone else who shops online appreciate the bargains to be had on the web while shopping for just about anything. Most websites offer the best prices on their websites and you can always find a deal on the web over what you might find in a retail store. Some stores now offer their closeouts exclusively online. I like to search for the best price on the web but searching has become a drag with all the junk in the way and when I find a website with a load of deals in one place it makes me smile. I was happy to find a new coupon site today that has an awesome selection of coupons online and some of the best coupons for places like my favorite site Amazon.com as well as many other large shopping sites like Sears and of course kids favorites KB Toys and GameFly to name a few. They have 100’s of different store coupons available and you could probably find a deal or discount on just about anything you buy online. There are no gimmicks or catches to this one and you get the coupons discounts after you click through to the sponsor site and make a purchase online.

You do not have to join their site or supply information to anyone other than the retailer and of course the big players all use secure website so shopping online should be safe and smooth. An online coupons site like this one will come in super handy when the holiday shopping season rolls around and folks start building wish lists and what not. I know I can always use some ideas for what to get and a coupon to the right store may just be the right way to spark some ideas for this Christmas and the gift giving season. I can already see I’ll be doing 100% of my shopping online this year as I am in Jamaica and most of my friends and family are back home in the States. online and securing free shipping seems like my best choice for this year and 1-Coupons.com should be of great help to me and maybe you as well.

Zune L.A., the Social gets an address

June 12th, 2008 by admin

Microsoft is opening up the Social by means of a club in Los Angeles California. I wonder if you have to have a Zune player in order to get an invite to these exclusive events?

Anyone been to the Zune L.A. Club? Whats it like?

Zune gets in tune with L.A. - Los Angeles Times

For a sizable swath of Los Angeles media types, going to a club is so 2005.

The chic crowd would rather attend an event at a temporary space that feels more like a gallery. Beverage companies and lifestyle marketers have played to that audience, marrying their brands to sleek nights with slick music (most notably at the temporary pop-up Stoli Hotel “club” in Hollywood last year). And now Microsoft is upping the ante.

Perhaps forced into creative marketing by Apple’s iPod, Microsoft’s rival Zune player is jumping into the nightlife fray by launching a space that is carrying the product’s name. The Seattle-area company is in it for the long haul, having signed a three-year lease at a venue on Beverly Boulevard.

Zune L.A., formerly photographer Greg Gorman’s studio, serves as an office for a handful of the Microsoft music player’s employees during the day, but, after dark at events such as last month’s opening soiree, the tri-level space offers the company the opportunity to court L.A.’s tastemakers.

Chris Stephenson, Zune’s general manager of global marketing, calls the space “a clubhouse for the creative community in L.A. — a place for people to gather and connect that’s designed for creative expression.”

That expression, of course, takes on a different tone in the nightlife scene. At the christening, Zune wooed all manner of movers and shakers in the art, music and event-planning world with mojitos, music and visuals. Eastside promoter and Temporary Spaces founder Sean Patrick DJ’d (plugged into a Zune player, naturally) across from a custom light installation (an “interactive chandelier”) from noted London-based artist Moritz Waldemeyer.

The space shares more in common with gallery/restaurant hybrids like the newly opened Royal-T in Culver City in that it is bright, airy and invites conversation, in contrast to the typical club where shop talk is barely audible. It features a rooftop patio, DJ booth and circular soundproofed music room suitable for hosting bands.

Jamaal Layne, project manager for Zune L.A., likens the experience of entering the space to “walking into an actual Zune [player].”

Zune L.A. has hosted private events for groups such as CAA, and for now its offerings will remain invitation-only. Musicians such as Janelle Monae and former Black Crowes guitarist Marc Ford have already performed at Zune L.A., and former Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker will launch his line of New Era hats this month.

Its next event, on Tuesday, is a screening of “Joy Division: The Documentary” (followed by a 90-minute DJ set from Joy Division bass player Peter Hook).

Says Stephenson: “We envision Zune L.A. as a cultural hub.”

So why is Microsoft debuting this concept in L.A., and not in Seattle or New York?

“We wanted to pick somewhere where we could not only feed off the cultural energy of the city but collaborate with the creative community to add to it,” he says. “L.A. had the right mix of entertainment gravitas and growing cultural relevance within art and design.”

ZUNE L.A.
WHERE: 8275 Beverly Blvd. (at Sweetzer), L.A.

WHEN: Multiple private events monthly; next event is Tuesday featuring Peter Hook

PRICE: Invitation only

Zune MP3 Download - The Bittercups

May 13th, 2008 by admin

The Bittercups
The Bittercups

MP3: The Bittercups — One Side

In a hypothetical, fantasy football league of South Florida bands, the Bittercups would be a star pick: two parts Billy Boloby and two parts Heatseekers.

Singer-keyboardist Boloby, guitarist Herman von Uberstein, bassist Terra Marie and drummer Chuck Loose are scene veterans, and bring their experience and attitude to their latest incarnation.

The Bittercups juggle careers, freelance writing, startup businesses and other bands to play punk-inspired tunes with pop keyboards.

Influenced by the Buzzcocks, the Vapors and the Clash, the band shows off their high-energy rock whenever they get a chance, picking and choosing the shows they want to play.

Careers and obligations make it difficult for the band to pick up and hit the road whenever they please, which attracts the interest of record labels. But they have recorded an eight-song album and are hoping to get it released soon.

XNA Game Studio 3.0 and Zune = Zune XNA

March 7th, 2008 by admin

I realized that I never posted a link to the announcement last month about XNA development on Zune. It’s been a long time coming but we’ll have games for Zune that are designed and developed by members of the Zune community. If anyone is as hyped about developing a game as I am then please contact me so we can get to work on building some games for Zune game players.
XNA Team Blog : Announcing: XNA Game Studio 3.0 and Zune

Announcing: XNA Game Studio 3.0 and ZuneDavid “LetsKillDave” Weller

XNA Evangelist

We could have rested on our laurels by just announcing the new Xbox LIVE community games and XNA Creators Club Online features, but we’re a driven bunch of people here, and we’re passionate about gaming, so let’s lob another amazing treat out there.

The XNA Community Games Platform team is delighted to offer you a sneak peek at our first major feature for XNA Game Studio 3.0: The ability to build games for the Zune platform! This will let you write one game and deploy it to all three platforms that XNA Game Studio 3.0 will support: the Xbox 360, Windows, and now the Zune. While the Zune lacks the 3D graphics horsepower to drive high-end games like you can on the Xbox 360, we’ve taken extreme steps in making sure that you will have the broadest access to the XNA Framework APIs possible, allowing you to create fun Zune games while still letting you integrate carefully with the overall Zune media experience. That means that XNA Game Studio 3.0 integration includes discoverability/access to the user’s music – allowing the user to customize background soundtracks or create real-time visualizations at their discretion. In addition, the XNA Community Games Platform team has announced the ability to have multiple Zunes wirelessly engage in an ad-hoc gaming experience (think of the possibilities!).

Our current planning is to offer a preview release of XNA Game Studio 3.0 in the Spring 2008 timeframe, with a final release scheduled for the holiday 2008 season. We look forward to your feedback and seeing what kind of amazing games you can create for the Zune!

I will be looking for some writing partners who want to write about their Zune players. If you own a Zune and would like to discuss a position writing for ZuneMAX.com please contact me for more details.

Zune MP3 Download - I Am Stereo

July 26th, 2007 by admin

I Am Stereo
I Am Stereo

MP3: I Am Stereo — Chewin’ on a Battery

All the members of I Am Stereo have done their time toiling in local bands — but now they are the ones throwing the rock ‘n’ roll parties.

Drummer Steve Copeletti, guitarist/vocalist Adam Rosenberg, guitarist/synth Jon Wilkins and bassist Brian Hill are all South Florida pros. Copeletti and Wilkins are aka DJ Sloan and DJ Grand Theft Auto in their spare time, spinning at indie rock parties like PopScene at Dada. They have all known each other for a while, but just six months ago came together to form I Am Stereo.

Their sound is ’60s psychedelic mixed with today’s indie pop.

“Like Velvet Underground and Syd Barrett meets the New Pornographers,” Copeletti said.

I Am Stereo is focusing on recording right now, with one EP in the works.

“We’re playing mostly at shows that we put on, to keep up our chops. Hopefully we’ll have two EPs out before the end of the year,” Copeletti said.

Zune MP3 Download - Sayonara Tokyo

July 23rd, 2007 by admin

Sayonara Tokyo

Sayonara Tokyo

For Sayonara Tokyo, good things come in fours: four band members, four retro hip blazers and four songs racking up hits on MySpace.

The band is relatively new to the local scene. Self-described as “country punk dancehall rock,” their songs channel the indie rock stylings of the Strokes, with moments of Fugazi-like chaos. Their song Indian Companion brings in the lonely-cowboy “country” aspect of their accurately dubbed genre description.

The well-dressed, Miami-based quartet of vocalist JD (no last name — Madonna style), guitarist Danny Aranow, drummer Nicholas Ellis and bassist Jon Benson has released an EP and is focused on booking shows and getting the good word out.

The Deffects

The Deffects

Grunge is alive and well in South Florida, thanks to newcomers the Deffects.

Vocalist and guitarist Ralph Aboy, guitarist Kevin Gonzolez, bassist Mike Casaña and drummer Steven Caw have been jamming for four months. The guys manage to practice several times a week, even though they are still in high school.

Influenced by the Meat Puppets, Nirvana and the Test Icicles, the Deffects are reviving grunge and adding their own punk rock twist to it.

Their last show brought in 75 people, through heavy promotion on MySpace, and the band’s “street team.”

“It’s really just one guy named Dan who hands out fliers — Street Team Dan,” Kevin said.

The Deffects are trying to play as many clubs as possible and get their name out.

“We’d like to record a demo if we ever get the money,” Kevin said.

Find them at myspace.com/thedeffects.

Zune MP3 Download - Friendly Fire

July 17th, 2007 by admin

Friendly Fire

Friendly Fire

MP3: Friendly Fire — Liar Liar

Friendly Fire is bringing rock ‘n’ roll back to its roots: sex and booze … plus the mod addition of podcasts.

The glam-tastic trio of singer/bassist Kristal Van Hart, drummer Dave-O Brian and guitarist Stunner, take their larger-than-life personalities both on stage and online.

Their music is raw, all-out rock ‘n’ roll, Cheap Trick with a punk edge and a fetish for dressing up. They also don’t shy away from politics, sporting the American flag and lyrics about Big Brother, drugs and social “insecurity.”

With a debut CD, Left Right Uppercut, and an exhaustive South Florida touring schedule in the next few months, it’s a wonder that Friendly Fire finds the time to create a jam-packed Web site.

But there are radio shows, packed with talent from local bands around the world, also available in podcasts. Van Hart answers fan’s love life dilemmas, and the rest of the site is well-stocked with downloads, photos and lyrics.

Find them at myspace.com/friendlyfiremusic or friendlyfirenetwork.com.

Karmakaze

Karmakaze

Punk rock only takes three chords and a lot of attitude.

However, technical metal requires all of that in-your-face attitude, plus full knowledge of pentatonic and Dorian, major and minor, scales and arpeggios — all played really fast.

The guys of Karmakaze are up to the task, dishing out technical, avant-garde metal that is more than just head banging.

Guitarist Rick Horton, bassist Ryan Melanson and drummer Luis Rodriguez blend fast, high-pitched solos with laid-back, jazzy backgrounds, still retaining their toughness.

The new trio has already won most technical band and most inspirational band awards at Murphy’s Law at Seminole Hard Rock.

MP3: Baby Calendar — Within Cell Walls

Forget the beat-up van full of beat-up old amps. This summer, Miami natives Baby Calendar will pack up a Honda Element and hit the road, hauling their quirky, jangling indie pop everywhere from Houston to Kalamazoo.

Singer-keyboardist Jackie Biver, singer-guitarist Tom Gorrio and drummer Arik Dayan have only been together for about a year and a half, but already they have two albums out and one more coming out in May.

Your Move is an acoustic EP from Biver and Gorrio, then Dayan joined in on drums on full-length Fifteen Year Old Sneakers.

Gingerbread Dog will be released by Happy Happy Birthday to Me Records. Its 11 tracks are full of clever, catchy indie pop that fits right in with the Athens, Ga.-based label.

Relentless touring and a DIY aesthetic (the band has booked the entire summerlong national tour themselves) have made Baby Calendar local heroes, who are now poised to take on the national scene.

Find them at myspace.com/babycalendar or babycalendarmusic.com.
