Domains are online real estate for investors

July 31st, 2008 by admin

Domain investing and speculation has been around a long time. Domainers have been trying to snatch up and sell so many domains that a huge industry has sprung up around it and domain buying and selling is a full time job for some of us. The domain market can have some sweet payoffs if you have the right talents and foresight to grab the right domains when you can.

As an example this website cam about as an idea in the domain forums at NamePros.com when someone announced Microsoft had a new project comingzune and I jumped on the bandwagon and scored some Zune domains. I have quite a few great Zune domains that all point to this website and help in our search engine and internet marketing efforts.

I have my own custom set of tools that I developed for use in prospecting domains and I do ok with the large number of domains I secured in 2003. each year since i have sold off an increasingly larger number of domains and each year the prices have been mind boggling. I sold two domains just yesterday for a total of over $5,000US to an Israeli investor in the moving and relocation industry. He purchased two top keyword .org domains and should be able to recoup his investment by the end of the year with proper planning and development.

The domain industry is now loaded with websites offering domain tools and investment tips on how to buy and sell domains but be wary of anyone trying to turn you onto this business. All the good domains are boiught up and traded around regularly. You can try to play the dropped domains game like so many others do or you can become a sitebuilder as many domainers should.

Websites like i Go Mogul offer some great advice on how the domain industry operates and would be a great resource for anyone just starting in the domain investment markets. Before you get to wrapped up in making money buying and selling domains take a look at the information they offer and see how it may help you before you make a mistake that costs you.

For me I made a huge profit on a domain which has cost me less than $40 to own. It’s my intellectual property for sale and I was happy to make such a great return on it. Domain

Ninjaman hits the stage on Dancehall Night at Reggae Sumfest 2008

July 31st, 2008 by admin

Ninjaman up close at Reggae Sumfest 2008

Ninjaman hits the stage on Dancehall Night at Reggae Sumfest 2008

Ninjaman is a notorious hardcore Jamaican musician with roots in Dancehall but from the harder side of the dance floor. Ninjaman is well known for his gun loving lyrics and nasty on stage performances. Reggae Sumfest 2008 was no different. The Ninja was not so silent and neither were his fans as he dazzled the crowd with his act performance.

Ninjaman is a local favorite and his show was high energy and powerful. It’s always nice when the crowd knows an artists music and that was certainly the case on Thursday night at SumFest. The crowd seemed to know every word to every song as he belted out some fan favorites.

If you ever get thew chance to see ninjaman in concert then I suggest you do so. If not then download some Ninjaman mp3 files from Amazon and play Ninjaman on your Zune

Zune Guy Buys iPod classic

July 27th, 2008 by admin

Zune Guy Buys iPod classic, Hell Freezes, Apocalypse Nears! - Gizmodo Australia

No, we are not kidding: the infamous Zune Guy, that dude who got three Zune tattoos, and then decided to get rid of them, says now that he avoided buying a Zune last time he was at Best Buy and got an iPod classic 80GB. He openly admitted it in the Zune Scene forums.

And low and behold, it’s a black iPod classic 80gb. When I was in Best Buy I looked around at the other players, and they sold no Creatives in the store, so the only choices were iPods, Zunes, Insignas, Samsung and Sony. So when looking at which had everything available in store (I despise UPS) I went with the iPod. I more than likely will regret this decision but I will let you all know down the road. I do like the weight and feel of the device thus far.

At least he’s looking at the alternative, but at this rate he’s going to end up with a lot of scars. I wonder how many iPod owners would change to Zune to see. Are you an iPod owner? Would you do it? [Zune Scene]

No Zune players at Reggae SumFest 2008 Dancehall Night

July 18th, 2008 by admin

The Crowd at Reggae SumFest 2008

I made it through the first night of Reggae SumFest and I had a great time. I did not make it to the final act of the evening and I missed “The Doctor” and Jamaica’s reigning “King of Dancehall” Beenie Man on stage. I woke up at 5am and watched the sun rise on Thursday morning and was not able to squeeze in a nap during the day so when the sun started to pop up again this morning I thought I was hallucinating at the pretty light show and remembered the hour long drive home ahead of me. I called it quits and drove home early for some short sleep and now I’m up again with little hope for any sleep again before the show tonight. I may end up missing some part of tonights show as I expect I’ll take a nap during the day at some point. My van is parked within easy access and a sleep break is easy with the press pass. I can walk in and out as I wish with the armband I’m wearing and not even the cops say much to me. I did notice like 100 police dogs all over and when I tried to snap a shot of one the guy made me put my camera down. It was a beautiful all black German Shepard with perfect form. I just wanted a pic of the dog but he would not have it. I don’t question Jamaican police I just go with the flow.

I was out gunned for interviews and the little bit of video I did get is probably crap because my camera with built in mic could not compete with all the noise in the room. Many of the people running interviews had much nicer cameras with attached microphones which made the interviews possible. I was stuck alone with my handheld video camera and no tripods allowed because of space constraints and tripping hazards. It was sad really but I had my digital camera and I got some good still photos. I spent much of the night networking and the show turned into a huge opportunity I think with a number of Jamaican artists expressing interest in working together with me on some online music projects. I’ve found so many musicians with a MySpace page and not their own website. I show them how powerful and easy something like Wordpress is and they can manage it from there. Having your own website allows you to generate your own income, builds a better brand with your music and gives you greater creative control. Anyway lets hope I can get a short nap and move on today. If not tonights coverage may be even weaker.

I had my Zune and WiFi on but I never caught a signal anywhere. not very surprised at the fact there are no Zunes in Jamaica but I was hoping for someone from the media or maybe an artist or band member to have something with them. No Zuners at SumFest except MAX and me.

Live blogging from SumFest 2008

July 17th, 2008 by admin

I’m sitting in the press room backstage at Reggae SumFest 2008 waiting to get my name on the list to interview artists at tonights show. I’m hoping to get an interview with Beenie Man and Mavado as well as Elephant Man and Vybes Kartel if possible. It’s Dancehall night and the energy is already picking up. The crowd is starting to build up and everyone seems excited for what should be a high energy show.

The tech guys just brought the free access pc’s online and I am the first to test them out with this post. I’m trying to get USB access to this pc so I can upload some pics from the show as they happen. When I do I’ll start uploading some pics and maybe even some short video clips for everyone.

Press Pass Access for Sumfest 2008

July 12th, 2008 by admin

Reggae Sumfest

I went to the Reggae Sumfest 2007 last July and I got the idea to ask for a press pass this year and yesterday I got an email requesting a photograph for my pass which has been approved. I did not expect that I would be able to do so because I got a late start and actually made my request after the official accreditation process had been closed. I think I was able to sweet talk a very special young lady in SumFest administration who facilitated my special request and was able to help me out.

I was only planning on going for just one day, Thursday evening is Dancehall night and my good friend Ras Slick wants to go that night. The King of Dancehall Beenie Man headlines with Bounty Killer, Elephant Man and Mavado for what should be an explosive evening of hardcore Jamaican musicians. Now that I have backstage and artist access I suppose I’ll have to go for the 3 main evenings and my plans are now to catch Friday and Saturday nights shows as well. I’m not very prepared but I think it should be a fun experience.

Friday nights line-up
features Lil Wayne, Keyshia Coles, John Courtney and Jah Cure who happens to be smoking hot here in Jamaica right now. This guy has a huge fan base here in Jamaica and is set to remain so for quite some time it seems. I’d like to interview him just to ask him some questions about wa gwan here in Jamaica. He seems to be a powerful influence on Jamaican youth and I’d like to hear his views on things in his home country. Jamaican musicians have incredible impact in the development of young Jamaicans and it’s not uncommon to hear 5-7 year old kids singing the latest hardcore hits word for word. I know a few 5 year olds who swear to be “Gangsta for Life” as the “Gully Creep” for me.

Saturday nights show features T-Pain as the main act with Reggae legend Beres Hammond and rising star Tarrus Riley backing up a mixed line-up of international stars. John Holt, Etana and Rootz Underground are also on the bill and should make fora great days music. I’m looking forward to my week. Anyone else in Jamaica for Sumfest with their Zune?

Sony pulls PlayStation 3 update

July 3rd, 2008 by admin

Sony pulls PlayStation 3 update - vnunet.com

Sony has pulled the latest firmware update for the PlayStation 3 following complaints from users that it rendered the system useless.

Version 2.40 was released on 2 July, but was removed from Sony’s servers later in the day following reports of problems.

Sony claimed that only a small number of consumers experienced issues with installing the patch, but the firm has temporarily suspended the download while it attempts to identify the problem.

It is not known whether affected PS3 owners will be able to repair the console themselves or have to return it to Sony to be fixed.

PS3 firmware update adds Xbox 360 features

July 3rd, 2008 by admin

globeandmail.com: Controller Freak - PS3 firmware update adds Xbox 360 features

Sony’s System Software Update 2.40, released Wednesday, adds to the PlayStation 3 several features originally popularized by the Xbox 360, including long-awaited “trophies,” which function much like Microsoft’s achievements, and in-game access to PlayStation 3’s XrossMediaBar (XMB) via the PS button, which can be roughly equated to the functionality made available when Xbox 360 players press the Xbox Guide button.

PlayStation 3 trophies are awarded as players accomplish various feats in certain games. They’re added to a user’s profile, which can be viewed and evaluated by other players. Ten first-party PlayStation games will support the new trophies functionality this year, including the upcoming MotorStorm: Pacific Rift and SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation, as well as some currently available PlayStation Network games, such as Pixeljunk Monsters: Eden. In a press release, Sony stated that many third-party game developers plan to include trophy support as well, which is only to be expected, given that cross-platform games are already designed with Xbox 360 achievements in mind.

Meanwhile, in-game access to the PlayStation’s XMB lets players scroll through and open any item on the bar, including music, videos, and games, as well as view their friends lists and check out other player’s profiles, all without exiting from their current game.

After downloading and installing the new firmware, I booted up the PlayStation Network game Pain—one of the existing games Sony noted would support trophies—to see how things worked.

Following a quick software update that added trophy functionality, I pressed the PS button to call up the XMB. I was able to check out my trophy collection and view my friends’ profiles, though I was disappointed that I still couldn’t see what games they were playing or request to join them, as Xbox 360 players can when they bring up the Xbox Guide.

However, I was able to select and open videos, view photo slideshows, and start other games stored on the PlayStation 3 hard drive without first going back to the desktop, which is something Xbox 360 owners can’t do.

I was also pleasantly surprised to learn that I didn’t have to begin playing through Pain again from scratch in order to earn trophies awarded for such basic achievements as finishing the tutorial. If I had accomplished a trophy-worthy feat before installing the new firmware, it was already registered.
